1)    Welcome back David. Thank you for sharing your exclusive project with us. It was a real treat. Could you tell us about how it first came about ?

DAVID : Thank you! After my first show at the Royal Albert Hall two years ago, I released a 4-track EP. When I returned for the second show, I didn’t plan for it to become a live project. About a week before, I decided to record everything. It was only when I listened back that I realised every song had come out so well — from that moment, I was committed to turning it into an album.

2)    We appreciate you. This project is really a step up from your previous ones like Kokoro 1 and 2, Galaxy and more. How would you describe this new collection of music compared to your previous work ?

DAVID: Those earlier albums were studio recordings, so they’re a bit more polished. This is a raw, one-take album where we just played everything we felt. In a way, it feels like the culmination of all the years I’ve been playing. There are songs here that stretch over ten minutes — I probably wouldn’t have had the confidence to do that before. A lot of the material is from Kokoro and Galaxy, but what you’re hearing is me with a few more years of experience, adding more depth and refining the tracks.

3)    You’ve played at some of the best venues across the country and it’s been a fun ride so far. DO you have a favourite performance from your live shows ?

DAVID: Both Royal Albert Hall shows were really special — to have two live projects from such an iconic venue is a blessing. But my number one has to be the Brick Lane Jazz Festival 2024. That was a big turning point in how I view myself as an artist. The energy of that crowd was unmatched — it was the best audience I’ve ever experienced.

4) It must be an overly exciting journey for you, what does it feel like when you’re performing with your fellow musicians at live events, ?

DAVID : I want to big up the band on this project — Jeremy Wilson, Aaron Liddard, Manny Bass, and Peter Solomon. Having them on stage gives me the tools to play my best. I have so much faith in them and their abilities, and that makes me feel safe and free to really express myself in the music.

5)  You’ve fused the genres of Gospel, R&B, Jazz and Neo Soul into this latest live experience. What was the process like creating these songs and working with such gifted musicians ?

DAVID : Half of the songs on this album are actually previously released songs, but they’ve evolved over time. Before the show, I worked closely with Jeremy, the drummer in my band, to refine and improve certain parts. We came up with some crazy ideas, but the band always takes them on board and finds a way to bring them to life. That’s the beauty of working with such talented musicians.

6)  Lastly, what can we expect from you moving forward, any more live shows, maybe producing on music artists songs, or maybe a Christmas song / project ?

DAVID : I’m hoping to play more festivals next year — they’re often easier to do than putting on my own shows! I’ll also be releasing a Christmas single featuring an amazing vocalist (I haven’t announced it yet, but you’ve heard it here first!). I’ll definitely be collaborating with more artists. 2026 is going to be incredible. For more information follow David Kofi on Instagram, Twitter / X, Tik Tok and visit his official website
